{Synopsis} – The authors of the hit Goddess Girls series put a fun and girly twist on another super-popular theme: fairy tales!
Once upon a time, in faraway Grimmlandia…
A Grimmtastic girl named Cinderella is starting her first week at Grimm Academy on the wrong foot. Cinda's totally evil stepsisters are out to make her life miserable. The Steps tease Cinda, give her terrible advice about life at the academy, and even make her look bad in front of her new friends, Red, Snow, and Rapunzel! But when Cinda overhears the Steps plotting a villainous deed that could ruin Prince Awesome's ball, Cinda, her new friends, and a pair of magical glass slippers have to stop them–before the last stroke of midnight!
{My thoughts} – Have I ever mentioned, just how much it is that I enjoy reading fairy-tale books/ retellings. This book is no exception to one of my newest likes in the fairy-tale world.
{Cinderella Stays Late} is a book mainly about Cinderella, but it isn’t based on the traditional story. It is about a young girl named Cinderella that has two step-sisters that of course treat her poorly as does her step-mother. But aside from that it’s isn’t like the well known story.
Cinderella is the newest student attending Grimm Academy in Grimmlandia. Grimmlandia is a special place that was created by the Grimm Brothers.
{It is written upon the wall of the great Grimstone Libary:
Something E.V.I.L. this way comes.
To protect all that is born of fairy tale, folktale, and nursery rhyme magic, we have created the realm of Grimmlandia. In the center of this realm, we have built two castiles on opposite ends of a Great Hall, which straddles the Once Upon River. And this haven shall be forever known as Grimm Academy.
~ The Brothers Grimm}
Cinderella gets into a lot of trouble her first week attending the academy, but only because her step-sisters had set her up to be in trouble. She does make some new friends though Red, Rapunzel, and Snow. Her new friends seem to understand that Cinderella isn’t half as bad as her steps try to make her out to be and they also understand that her steps are out to make her life miserable.
Cinderella’s only goal is to not be expelled because it has been her mother’s dream for her to attend the academy, but since her mother had passed away, she didn’t want to let her down. This book mostly helps you to better understand Cinderella and her situation, but it also includes other information about other characters that are well known.
The most important part about this book I think is the information that you learn when you come across the E.V.I.L. Society. This information I do believe is important to understanding the series.
If you enjoy reading about retellings – then I am certain you will enjoy reading this book and most likely the rest of the series.
Final Conclusion: 5 Star Rating.
