{Synopsis} – “If it’s war they want, they messed with the wrong girl.”
M. Savage—or Em, as she is called—has made a bewildering and ominous discovery. She and the other young people she was chosen to lead awoke in strange coffins with no memory of their names or their pasts. They faced an empty, unknown place of twisting tunnels and human bones. With only one another to depend on, they searched for answers and found the truth about their terrifying fate. Confronted by a monstrous enemy, they vowed never to surrender—and, by any means, to survive.
The planet Omeyocan may be the sanctuary Em and her comrades seek. But the planet for which they were created turns out not to be a pristine, virgin world. Vestiges of a lost civilization testify to a horrifying past that may yet repeat itself. And when a new enemy creeps from the jungle shadows, Em and her young refugees learn there’s nowhere left to run. They face a simple choice: fight or die.
In the midst of this desperate struggle, their unity is compromised from within—and a dangerous zealot devoted to a bloodthirsty god moves to usurp Em’s command, threatening to lead them all down a path to violent doom.
{My thoughts} – I am without a doubt a fan of this series. I highly enjoyed the first book as it is a different type of dystopian then I would normally read. However, I am glad that I chose to read it. It is highly engaging. It has a nice recap that helps you to remember what took place in the first book. It has a nice little adventure within the pages, it has mild like truly mild romance, it has a fight for leadership, it has the birthday children making new discoveries around many different corners.
I have learned to the the character of Em and to hate her creator Matilda. I feel that way about a lot of the characters verses their creators in this series. I have officially learned to despise Aramovsky. His character is the true definition of a snake – which helps to keep Em in her element. He brings out the best in her since he makes her life difficult every chance he gets, which I find to be rather interesting and entertaining at the same time.
Em struggles a lot within the pages of this book and the first. She is always trying to figure out who she is, who she wants to be and who she is meant to be. She always has this thoughts from her creators father that tells her to handle things in a savage like manner. And then she has opposite thoughts telling those thoughts to go away in some instances that are all her own.
I have come to enjoy the way this series has been written and I look forward to reading the last book in the trilogy very soon.
If you enjoyed books like Divergent and Lord of the Flies I am certain you will enjoy this books.
{Quotes I Enjoyed} –
{01} – I have been alive long enough to know things aren’t always as they seem.
{02} – Am I frightened? Of course. But I have always grown accustomed to this- the unknown is all that I have ever known.
{03} – “There are no miracles. We make our own destiny.”
{04} – (If you run, your enemies will hunt you…kill your enemy, and you are forever free.)
{05} – It hurts that she doesn’t trust me, but in a way I’m glad she doesn’t. One mistake on my part and people could die- that’s more important than my feelings.
{06} – (Attack, attack, when in doubt, always attack.)
{07} – There is only one person you can always count on-yourself.
Final Conclusion: 5 Star Rating.
